Fall is typically the time when our native plants put on their last big show for the wave of butterflies that are either migrating through or preparing to overwinter in Texas. Unfortunately, though, many of the plants they depend on—plants such as frostweed, in particular—bloomed much later than usual or didn’t bloom at all.
That said, there were still butterflies to see wherever a plant or flowering tree, such as evergreen sumac, managed to bloom. These are some you might have noticed as well.
