Volunteer
Trail Crew
Volunteers are the heart of SMGA. Whether you enjoy working on the trails or engaging the community, there’s a place for you in our volunteer network.
Our Trail Crew is responsible for maintaining and improving the trails in our greenbelts and natural areas. Activities include:
- Building and maintaining hiking trails
- Removing invasive species and planting native plants
- Installing trail markers, benches, and other amenities
- Keeping SMGA tools and equipment in working order
- Assisting in training new trail crew members

Outreach Team
Our Outreach Team helps raise awareness and appreciation for our greenbelts through community engagement and education.
- Represent SMGA at community events
- Expand membership and fundraising efforts
- Organize and host educational workshops and presentations
- Collaborate with local organizations to promote environmental stewardship
- Distribute informational materials about conservation efforts and trail stewardship

Our Committees:
- Conservation – Focuses on protecting and preserving San Marcos’ green spaces through land conservation efforts and advocacy.
- Fundraising – Develops and implements fundraising strategies, organizes donation campaigns, and seeks grant opportunities to support SMGA’s initiatives.
- Outreach – Enhances community engagement by planning events, managing public relations, and growing SMGA’s visibility through social media and other platforms.
- Stewardship – Oversees trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and sustainable land management practices to ensure the long-term health of our natural areas.
