Birding in 2023

Early on the first Saturday of every month, SMGA members and others from the community can be found along the river or on the trails in one of our natural areas, with binoculars and cameras pointed toward the treetops. Led by Stephen Ramirez and Colton Robbins for more than a decade, local birders routinely spot 30-40 species each week, including unusual migrants. In 2023, the group recorded sightings of 110 species, among them the Mississippi kite, sharp-shinned hawk, vermillion flycatcher, and northern parula.
