Support Our Vision

We’re building a legacy of conservation that nurtures the health, vitality, and natural beauty of San Marcos—for today, and for generations to come. By supporting SMGA through membership, donations, or legacy giving, you’re helping to:

  • Expand and maintain one of the most unique trail systems in the country

  • Protect native ecosystems from invasive species

  • Reduce flooding impacts by preserving critical greenspace

Every gift, no matter the size, helps safeguard the land we love.

Facebook Birthday Fundraisers are an excellent way for supporters of the SMGA to raise funds and awareness by inviting their personal networks to donate in lieu of traditional birthday gifts. Leveraging Facebook’s powerful fundraising tools can significantly enhance SMGA’s grassroots contributions and strengthen community connections.

What Is a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser?

Facebook prompts users to create a birthday fundraiser about two weeks before their special day. You can choose SMGA as your cause and invite your friends and family to donate in your honor—no wrapping paper required! This helps SMGA because:

  • No fees: 100% of your fundraiser donations go straight to SMGA.

  • Easy for donors: Friends can donate without leaving Facebook.

  • Inspires giving: Seeing others donate builds momentum.

  • Facebook promotes it: So we don’t have to!

  • Deepens connection: Sharing your “why” builds personal impact.

How to Set One Up

  1. Go to Facebook’s Fundraiser section or click when prompted.

  2. Select “San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance” as your nonprofit.

  3. Set your goal and write a short personal message.

  4. Hit Create, then share with friends and family.

Copy-and-paste this sample message when creating your fundraiser:

“For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance. SMGA protects and maintains the trails and green spaces that make San Marcos so special — helping preserve native habitat, prevent flooding, and connect people with nature.

I’m asking for donations to support this important work. Every dollar goes directly to SMGA, and Facebook covers all fees. Help me celebrate by giving back to the trails we love!”

You can do this from both desktop and mobile!

Many of our supporters leave gifts to the SMGA in their wills or estate plans so they can do even more to protect and preserve local green spaces for future generations. You can, too! You’ll be helping SMGA continue its mission for years to come.

Legacy Options:

  1. Include SMGA in Your Will or Trust
Designate SMGA as a beneficiary of a specific amount, asset, or percentage of your estate. Gifts can be unrestricted (used where most needed) or restricted to a specific purpose—just reach out so we can help honor your wishes.
  2. Name SMGA as a Beneficiary
List SMGA as a full or partial beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy. This simple step may reduce your estate and income tax burdens and lets your legacy support local nature.
  3. Charitable Gift Annuities & Trusts
Receive lifetime income and tax benefits while supporting SMGA long-term through a charitable gift annuity, deferred annuity, or charitable remainder trust.
  4. Gifts of Stock
Donating appreciated securities or making a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA can offer tax advantages while directly supporting SMGA’s mission.
