San Marcos Take a Hike MeetUp Group

San Marcos Take a Hike is a hiking group that was started in January 2017. It is a MeetUp group and hikes are posted and announced to the members through MeetUp. 

San Marcos Take a Hike emphasizes fun, health, and friendship. We hike the many trails in the parks and natural areas of San Marcos and surrounding areas every Saturday and Sunday. We also regularly do out of town hikes and San Marcos city walks. We have members of all ages and skill levels. We hike at about a three mile an hour pace. 

Since its formation in 2017, San Marcos Take a Hike has sponsored almost 500 hikes. Bernie Andersen, retired Fire Management Chief for the Kentucky Division of Forestry, leads the Saturday hikes and Rich Warms, a professor of anthropology at Texas State University who has been leading hikes for 30 years, leads the Sunday hikes
