Exploring the Trails: A Photo Essay on Spring Lake Natural Area
Discovering new trails in San Marcos is a great way to get in touch with nature and get out as a family to explore. On a recent weekend, we took an adventure hike to the Spring Lake Area. We selected this trail for its features—a dock, sundial, and beautiful hillside views. We entered through the Lime Kiln Road entrance. It was a quick drive with plenty of parking.
We hiked up to the dock where we were on the lookout for wetland critters. We spotted a few globe snails, cattails, and a couple of gambusia in the pond. The kids loved using the informational kiosks to hunt for the various species of the habitat.
We hiked along Exogyra, a short trail that led us to two brick thrones and, as we hiked further up, a sundial. The kids enjoyed their independence exploring the trail, looking at the different flowers, trees, and animal tracks in the mud.
We enjoyed quality time, laughter, and fresh air together. I highly recommend this trail. It offers a wide range of treasures, and the ease of the trail is very family friendly.
